Date Night in Sorrento

After a high-speed train and a chauffeured car ride, we arrived in Sorrento.

Even after looking at countless photos online, in preparation for the trip, nothing can compare to actually being here - words cannot describe the breath-taking beauty!

Every angle of the stunning Bellevue Syrene features something amazing to see: from ruins of an ancient Roman port at the base of the hotel's solarium / pier to the East, to the hotel's pool and La Pergola restaurant to the West, and the sweeping Mediterranean-views in between.

It's picture-perfect! So much so that I had to open a bottle Prosecco just to calm-down my blogger's innate desire to capture the beauty!

The rest of the afternoon, we spent sipping limoncello in the sun, on our terrace. After which, we went for a swim in the crystal-clear blue waters of the Mediterranean, followed by a dinner where we watched the sun set.

To dinner, I wore this gorgeous dress from Maggy London. It seemed like the perfect fit for the first date-night of our Honeymoon!

Ciao from Sorrento!

Honeymooners in Rome

After what felt like the longest travel day ever Christian and I finally made it to Rome. Even though we were super tired and a bit let lagged, we decided not to just crash and went for a little stroll around. With no particular plan we just wandered and took in all the beauty and charm that Rome has to offer, we also snapped a couple of pics and then indulged in gelato and pizza.

Those Rainy Day Blues

Rainy days in Vancouver are pretty inevitable especially during the Spring. I know that this blog is called Gumboot Glam - but realistically wearing a pair of tall gumboots can be cute in the Fall and Winter, but they can be a bit much on those days that it's raining but still pretty warm. That's why I'm pretty obsessed with this cute gumboots. It's kinda the perfect marriage of fashion and function. And I think that they look pretty cure with my fav fit and flare shirt dress, a trench, and my glasses and new fav watch.

Finding Time for Me: The Kobo 7 Day eReading Challenge

Ok, confession time: this is a bit embarrassing for me but I cannot remember the last time that I just sat down and read a full book, cover to cover. It is not for lack of wanting to - I buy books all the time and my nightstand is full of books. It's just that I never seem to have the time, nor do I have the purse space!

And, that's why I just love my Kobo eReader. It's conveniently-sized - as, it fits into a small purse or even a coat! Zero fashion sacrifices required to pull out a book and read!

In all honesty, I have never used an eReader before, but I have to say: I've become a quick convert.

First, as I said, it's a perfect size. Second, it's unbelievably lightweight - it weighs way less than my iPad, which I did not expect. Third, the battery lasts forever - I think I have charged it once, and I've read a whole book, amazing! And lastly, there is absolutely no glare from the sun - so this will definitely be coming with me on my honeymoon. I love to read on the beach!

It's All in the Details

Wedding season is here and that means a chance to really dress up! And, I love any excuse to wear a pretty dress and a great pair of heels! I bought this dress a few months ago and have been waiting for the right occasion. And, what better occasion than a wedding, right?

My biggest question was how to best accessorize. And, for me, nothing's more important than finding the right pair of heels. They had to be comfortable (I love to dance), super-chic, delicate and feminine. These shoes from Steve Madden, via Shoeme.ca, ticked every one of the boxes on my shoe wishlist - and they were also shipped to my house lighting-fast. Super obsessed!!

Dove HairDare

Since I was about 13 years old, I was obsessed with experimenting with my hair. Despite my mother’s pleas to not experiment, I just could not resist! My biggest temptation was to take my natural dark brown (almost black, really) locks to a nice shade of blonde. I would constantly see celebs go from dark to light, and think: I can do that, too! But, then at the last minute, right before getting to the salon, I would panic and think that my hair would be way too damaged, and then chicken out and opt for a pretty shade of chestnut brown. While still super pretty, I was always disappointed that I was too scared to do what I really wanted.

Last year, when Spring and then Summer came around I got the itch to go blonde again. But, again, I chickened out, because: 1) I was getting married in the Fall; and 2) I was WAY too scared to damage my hair or do anything ‘different’ before the wedding. Now that I am a happy Mrs., I thought “why not”! Time to switch things up! New last name, new hair colour - and I am so happy that I did! #HairDare accepted!

I’m not going to lie to you gals, going from basically jet black hair to blonde is not for the faint of heart. Having naturally dry, curly, and fine hair is not the greatest place to start. After my first round of bleaching my hair wasn’t feeling that amazing. And, it also doesn’t help that I am addicted to my heat-styling tools: my curling wand, my flat iron and my blow dryer. Talk about breakage...blah!

That’s when I started to use the Dove Regenerative Nourishment line - and I have to say that it has totally saved my hair! It immediately felt better after the first wash (and it also smells amazing...truly!). The line consists of a nourishing Shampoo, Conditioner and Serum-in-Oil. My favorite product from the line is the Serum-in-Oil which makes my hair feel soft, smooth and glossy. I have also noticed that since I started using the Dove Regenerative Nourishment line that I have way, way less breakage. Having hair that feels so much better and so much healthier makes me feel like trying out something even more fun and daring...lavender hair anyone?! Maybe some rosegold highlights?! I’m feeling super daring! #HairDare accepted ;)

The Regenerative Nourishment range, formulated with Red Algae + Keratin NutriComplex, is a specific daily program for damaged, over-processed hair, making it smoother and stronger against breakage - as if damage never happened. Learn More!
