Wedding Planning

Some of you may know that Christian and I are getting married in just over 3 months – actually its 3 months and one day!

Like a lot of people we are paying for the majority of our wedding with our own savings, and while having the perfect day is at the top of our list so is sticking to a strict budget, and not starting our lives as Mr. & Mrs. with a ton of debt.

While I would love the luxury of just throwing a bunch of money at a planner, being that myself and Christian are pretty ‘Type A’ and have planner our share of events we really wanted to take a stab at planning our day! That said we will be looking for a ‘day-of’ planner to execute our vision, that way we can really just enjoy all our hard work. So here are some of my tips and tricks for planning your special day.

1.       Pinterest, seriously – Pin early, Pin often. Pin everything you like and then every few weeks, go back into your Pinterest boards and cull the items that you don’t love anymore. You will start to get a sense of what your design aesthetic is and what you have to have.

2.       Meet with lots and lots of vendors. Weddings are super exciting and if you are like me – you just get excited when anyone shows you anything and you jump at it. Like everything, being impulsive will cost you in the long run. Christian and I met with 3 vendors from each of our categories, floral, décor, cakes, photographers, videographers, hair and makeup and planners.

3.       Take a lot of notes and record all of the meetings and vendors that you’ve met with. For me the process of meeting with people to talk about my wedding was so exciting that I would tend to go into a mini wedding blackout, and would totally forget half of what was discussed. I received a super cute ‘Mrs. Future Planner’ which has been so key in helping me keep track of everything. It has sections for vendors and great countdowns which totally help you stay on track!
